Hey there Delilah!
So, on Clawdeen’s travels around the world, she was able to come visit us in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As one of the ten provinces (like a state in the U.S.) in Canada, we are in located in the West just above the U.S. State of Montana. It is a province with the beautiful Rocky Mountains on one side and flat prairie land as far as you can see on the other side of us!
While Clawdeen was here, we were able to take her on a few tours of our exciting city and we even brought her out to the Rocky Mountains for a little visit. Although I’m sure she has seen snow before, I’m not sure she has seen this much of it before. Here are some photos that captured some of her trip here!
Her first stop in downtown Calgary was one of tallest buildings in the city, The Calgary Tower. The building is 191 meters high and it takes over 762 stairs to climb to the top of it! That’s a lot of steps! We took the elevator instead. Because the Winter Olympics took place in Calgary in 1988, the Calgary Tower had a gas-fired cauldron built on top and when it’s lit, the whole building looks like an Olympic Torch!
This photo shows you a painting of what the tower looks like from the outside… Clawdeen thought it was funny to make it look like she was “climbing” the tower!
This photo shows you a view from the glass floor at the very top of the Calgary Tower. As you can see, it is very far down! Can you see the teeny-tiny cars? Those are actual cars, but they just look tiny from so high up! Clawdeen was very brave and walked out on the glass to get a better view. Maybe one day you can come to Calgary and see this view yourself – it’s amazing!
Clawdeen and her friends were able to check out the other tall buildings in Calgary from the Calgary Tower. The building behind them is called The Bow and is currently the tallest building in Calgary. Clawdeen really enjoyed her tour of the Calgary Tower.
After we left the Calgary Tower, we took Clawdeen shopping at a large mall here in Calgary. We saw a lot of animals at the mall and Clawdeen was very surprised to see them there! She said she doesn’t usually see any animals while shopping in New York! Here are some photos of the animals that Clawdeen saw at the mall.
Shopping with such excitement all around made Clawdeen really tired, so she decided to take a break on the fish bench. She thought it was quite cool to sit on a fish bench!
While at the mall, Clawdeen also saw what appeared to be a hockey player. Although it was just a mannequin, Clawdeen wanted to get her photo taken with “him.” This is what the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team will wear when they play in the Olympics this month. Will you be watching any of the Olympics, Delilah?
The next day, we decided to go for a drive out to the Rocky Mountains and to a place called Kananaskis Country. Both are beautiful parts of Alberta that have lots of trails for hiking, skiing and exploring.
Have you heard of the town called Banff, Alberta? It’s a place where a lot of celebrities like to come for ski vacations and it is located here in the Rocky Mountains. Clawdeen was amazed by the mountains and all of the snow! Even though it may look cold because of the snow, we were having a very warm, sunny day here in Alberta, so she stayed warm, not to worry!
Clawdeen played in the snow…
…had fun in the trees…
…and took in all of the beauiful views.
We also stopped at a lodge in the Mountains and rested on a HUGE lounge chair.
On our way home from the Rocky Mountains, we stopped by Canada Olympic Park on the outskirts of Calgary.
As I mentioned earlier, in 1988 the Winter Olympics took place here in Calgary and this is where the skiing and other sporting events took place! Clawedeen loved watching the skiers.
She even tried curling for the first time!
She had so much fun.
On Clawdeen’s last night here with us she enjoyed hanging out with our dog, Lilly. I’m sure Lilly would love it if Clawedeen came back to visit us one day!
I hope Clawdeen enjoyed visiting Calgary, and I hope you were able to learn a little bit about Alberta, Canada while reading about her adventures here. I’m happy that she is soon making her way back to you, Delilah!
